Not a devotional — a book with a thesis, which makes it the right gift for someone who reads rather than someone who dips. Bevere's argument is that the fear of God has been quietly dropped from modern teaching and that its absence costs something, and he builds it carefully over the length of the book. At 4.9 across nearly six thousand readers it plainly connects. It is a demanding read and it is not comforting, which is the point. Buy it for someone who wants to think. Skip it as a gentle gift.
