Amazon Kindle Scribe, 16GB

The Scribe is two devices in one object: a large-format Kindle with the best screen Amazon makes, and a notebook that feels remarkably close to paper under the pen. Margin notes in books, handwritten pages that convert to text, and PDFs that can finally be marked up. The pen needs no charging and clips on magnetically. It is not a tablet — there is no browser worth using and no apps — and anyone expecting an iPad will be disappointed. Buy it for a reader who takes notes; skip it for someone who only reads novels, where a basic Kindle costs a quarter of this.
